What is Physical Therapy?
Physical Therapy is a health profession whose primary purpose is the promotion of optimal health and function through the application of scientific principals to prevent, assess, correct, or alleviate acute or prolonged muscle dysfunction.
What is a Physical Therapist?
A Physical Therapist is someone who has graduated from an accredited univeristy and is a state-licensed healthcare professional trained to evaluate, create a treatment plan, and carry out the treatment for a specific diagnosis.
What is a Physical Therapist Assistant?
A Physical Therapist Assistant is a healthcare professional. They are state-licensed with a 2 year degree, trained to assist the Physical Therapist and carry out the patients’ treatment plan.
What should I do when my doctor gives me a prescription?
Call the location nearest you to set up your evaluation.
What do I need to bring on my initial evaluation?
- Your physical or occupational therapy prescription
- Any applicable insurance information
- Photo ID, such as a Drivers License
- Medical history, including symptoms, tests completed by your physician, and a list of your medications (New Patient Forms are available for download here)
- Minors must have a parent or guardian with them, unless documentated verbal authorization have been previously received
- Wear comfortable clothes
What will happen during my evaluation?
The evaluation will consist of a review of the history of your present illness, symptoms, tests you’ve had, medications, recreational activity, and work You will then have tests to measure your strength, balance, gait transfer ability, and functional ability relating to your diagnosis. Lastly, you will receive treatment. This will last about an hour.
What will I have to pay?
As a courtesy we will file all insurance claims for you. Some plans require a co-pay or have a deductible. You can pay per visit, per week, or if you have a deductible, we can bill you after claims are reviewed by your insurance company. We are very flexible. Please feel free to speak with us regarding any hardship.
How do the therapists know what to do?
The physician's prescription will give a diagnosis and possibly include a specific treatment. There are a variety of protocols for various diagnoses. Our therapists are trained to plan treatments that are right for each patient. Check out their credentials.
How long will I need therapy?
Your physician will prescribe the frequency and duration of your treatment. Please notify us of any follow-up physician visits. Also your therapist will communicate with your physician after the initial evaluation and will send subsequent progress reports and a joint decision between all parties will determine if you need to continue treatment
Will my therapy be painful?
The “No Pain, No Gain” does not apply here. We will work with you to achieve the best results possible in a tolerable level of pain – please let us know if you’re having pain!
How often will I come for treatment?
Your physician may have specified a specific number of visits per week or left it open to the therapist. Generally it is 3 times per week but we will work with your schedule and condition to achieve the best results.
What if I need to reschedule?
Just give us a call. We will reschedule or cancel your visit. Please notify the location as soon as possible. We are very flexible and accommodating.
