Board Certified Specialist in Orthopedic Physical Therapy

Why choose a Board Certified Clinical Specialists? It promotes the highest level of enhanced diagnostic skills and specialty care for individuals seeking physical therapy, including managing patients with complex conditions, to achieve the most effective clinical outcomes. The Certification Program is a means of providing formal recognition to physical therapists, who have advance clinical knowledge, experience, and skills and and assists consumers and the health care community in identifying practitioners with advanced knowledge and skills in a specialty area.

To become certified, physical therapists demonstrate competence in both specialized knowledge and advanced clinical proficiency. They have built on a broad base of professional education and experience to develop a greater knowledge and skills in a particular area of practice.

Among the minimum requirements to become certified are documented hours of direct patient care in the chosen specialty area and successful completion of a rigorous Alan Dalton examination through the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties (ABPTS), which is the governing board for the specialist certification program within the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA).
